New Musical Theatre
The team at Starling Arts are passionate about the future of musical theatre and ensuring that new musicals are developed and nurtured.
Need a Chorus?
We recognise the many challenges facing stage writers today, including tight budgets and cast constraints. If you have an idea for a chorus and want to see it realised, we can help! Our background in musical theatre is at the root of our performance-led choirs and, as a result, the Starling Arts community is made up of singers who not only love musical theatre, but are great performers!
We've provided choruses for Gwyneth Herbert and Mel Brimfield's Springtime for Henry & Barbara at Wilton's Musical Hall and Bobby Friedman and Rupert Myers' Corbyn the Musical: the Motorcycle Diaries at the Waterloo East Theatre.
Workshop and Development
Starling Arts also offer workshop and development opportunities to writers who want to see their projects up on their feet, or try out ideas ahead of more formal R&D. In the past we have worked with Jen Green and Caroline Wigmore on the development of their music theatre piece, Surplus Women. The show, now titled The Bachelor Girls, was premiered in 2015 as part of Youth Music Theatre UK's summer season.
If you're a writer or producer looking for a chorus, or in search of a directing team and cast to try out your ideas, get in touch with Starling Arts to see how we can help!
Garsin & Shields
In 2011, Starling Arts' co-directors, Emily Garsin (née Cook) and Anna Shields , wrote their first original musical together; Moon. The show premiered as part of that year's Summer School and songs from the musical have since been performed in cabarets, concerts and on Taking Flight, the debut album from Starling Arts' choirs.
In 2014, Garsin & Shields wrote and produced their second collaboration, Return to Aesop, which received its premiere performance at their fifth annual Summer School that August. One of the show's songs - Write it From the Heart - features on the High Five album.
Garsin & Shields wrote and produced their third musical together, Finding Time, in 2016. The musical was the culmination of the 2016 Starling Arts Summer School.
The team continue to write musicals together. Click here to visit the Garsin & Shields website for more information.
