Cakes4Cabs - when choirs come together for charity

One of our favourite parts of running a community based company like Starling Arts are the moments where people, brought together through song, come together to do something special.

When one of our choir members began treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma earlier this year, members from across our adult choirs rallied together to provide vital financial support to get her to and from treatments.

Fellow choir member and friend Shelley Neighbour had a brainwave that tapped into the choir's love of baking: Cakes4Cabs.

Shelley said, “I wanted to do something productive to help and everyone loves cake - the idea is simple really: a different choir member bakes each week, and everyone pays £1 for a slice.”

Just a few months later, and the idea has raised over £1000 through sales at rehearsals and Starling Arts concerts.

Cakes baked include special Bon Jovi cup cakes (to tie in with our repertoire) and special Starling Arts topped treats.

Last week's star baker, Joey Clark, brought something amazing to the cake table - an iced wrecking ball, complete with a naked, pink haired Miley Cyrus doll...

The Cakes4Cabs bakers will be selling their creations at our upcoming Summer Fêtival. Come along and try out some of these delicious treats, along with plenty of games, stalls, refreshments and entertainment from our choirs, on Saturday July 12th, 12 - 4pm at St Gabriel's Hall, Pimlico.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Cakes4Cabs fund by baking or eating a cake!
