Starling Arts Celebrates being Double Finalist at the British Youth Travel Awards

We have some thrillifying news to share about our partnership with the hit West End musical Wicked!

Wicked Active Learning, the official education programme for Wicked, has achieved finalist status in two prestigious categories at this year’s British Youth Travel Awards:

  • Best Schools Programme

  • Best Experience

Being shortlisted in two separate categories is a huge achievement, building on the Silver Award won in the Best Schools Programme category last year.

Organised annually by BETA (British Educational Travel Association), the British Youth Travel Awards recognise excellence, innovation, and high standards across the youth, student, and educational travel sector.

With hundreds of organisations applying across 11 competitive categories, alongside iconic cultural experiences like The Beatles Story, and Blenheim Palace, we’re proud that Wicked is the only West End show recognised in 2026.

This double shortlist is a true testament to the exceptional educational value, artistic quality, and transformative impact of the Wicked Active Learning programme.

As the Official Workshop Providers for Wicked Active Learning, Starling Arts plays an integral role in bringing these award-nominated experiences to life for thousands of students and teachers each year. Alongside our workshops, Wicked Active Learning offers resources, post-show Q&As, school ticketing and other additional services to support educational travel.

Starling Arts co-directors Anna and Emily and a team of expert freelance facilitators lead interactive, curriculum-linked workshops inspired by the hit production, focusing on three core themes:

  • Musical Theatre & Performance: Developing vocal technique, stagecraft, storytelling, and ensemble singing skills.

  • Anti-Bullying: Exploring the show's core themes of empathy, celebrating differences, standing up for others, and challenging peer pressure.

  • Wellbeing: Using singing, movement, and creative expression to build resilience, self-esteem, and emotional literacy.

Every workshop is tailored to support teachers in delivering high-impact learning experiences, whether in the classroom or during school trips.

Bringing the Magic of Wicked to Life

Whether we are guiding students through the wonders of the song One Short Day, creating a safe space to discuss inclusion, or using group singing to build confidence, seeing young people engage with the arts is at the heart of our mission as a Community Interest Company.

We want to send a huge congratulations to our partners at Wicked Active Learning and the entire production team, as well as our incredible team of facilitators who bring passion, energy, and musical expertise to every single workshop!
