10 Reasons to Join a Choir Post Lockdown

There's no denying that the last 18 months or so have been tough. But, as we emerge from the pandemic, it's time to think about our 'new normal'.

Since March 2020, did you think or say any of the following things?

  • This pandemic has made me feel lonely and isolated

  • I was envious that other people took part in social events online and I didn't

  • When all this is over, I want to find a community to belong to

  • I could do with some more friends

  • I want to learn a new skill in a supportive environment

  • My life is "eat, sleep, work, repeat". I need a hobby in there

  • I don't laugh enough anymore

  • I'd like to see some faces other than my colleagues' each week

  • I want to meet a bunch of new people

  • My wellbeing is suffering, I need something to lift me up

If so, we have a solution. Join a choir!

Here are 10 reasons why:

  • Singing with others is a fantastic social activity that eliminates isolation

  • Being in a choir is a regular social activity you can rely on

  • Choirs make great communities. We'd say that your choir becomes your family

  • Singing in a choir is the quickest way to make new friends

  • It's a hobby that will heal the soul

  • It's proven to boost your mental health thanks to the happy endorphins group singing triggers in the brain

  • It will give your week a focus that isn't work related

  • Rehearsals are full of laugh out loud moments

  • You'll meet some of the best humans around

  • Music has magical powers to lift your body, mind and soul

So why not join one of our choirs?

We run the Starling Voices, two community choirs in London. One of our groups meets north of the river and the other south.

Being a member of Starling Voices is all about community; singing is the tool that brings us all together. We blend this community spirit with life-affirming rehearsals, delicious harmonies and amazing performances! So if you're looking for a new hobby as we enter our 'new normal', get in touch and sing with us!
